Hello! I’m a relative newbie, I’ve been writing for work in some form or another for about 6 years now but I’ve never quite figured out how to take the next step & make it my full time profession.
I’ve been lucky enough to write a fair bit for my dad’s business which was a great privilege & a bit of head start but unfortunately I wasn't able to use the content for my portfolio. I’ve been told the most important thing is to build up a portfolio, which I’ve been trying to do but I’ve never really nailed a niche or a particular type of writing. I’ve done little bits of everything - copywriting, marketing, product descriptions, press releases, social media, bid writing etc. so I wonder if the variety of my portfolio might actually be my downfall?
Any advice or tips at all on how I can give this a proper go would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance
